WHAT IS THE S.O.C.?
The Society of Osteopaths of Canada (S.O.C.) is an association who’s mission is to promote the philosophy and the practice of osteopathy by encouraging excellence in the education,  research and practice of a profession that offers quality health care.

As registered members of the S.O.C., we combine our efforts to protect the quality of the osteopathic medicine in Quebec, for the greater welfare of the population

L'ordre des Ostéopathes du Québec

Through upholding the philosophy of the profession of osteopathy, the S.O.C. dedicates itself to the following purposes:

Osteopathy is based on principles originally formulated in 1874 by Dr. A. T. Still.  These principles uphold that - the preservation of good health involves the understanding of the relationship between the structures and their function, as well as the inherent power of the body to auto-correct itself, - which ultimately confers to the profession its unique character.

The scientific and clinical validity of these principles is reaffirmed through the work of osteopaths.  For these principles to continue to serve the osteopaths and their patients, we have to continue their development through research and education, and by perfecting them through clinical applications.  The Society of Osteopaths of Canada seeks to protect and uphold these principles through research and training programs.  This has the effect of heightening the value of membership within the S.O.C.,  protecting the rights to practice, and assuring the development of the profession, with our end goal being to protect and improve the health of our patients on a larger scale.

There are specific objectives intrinsically linked to the aforementioned purposes that have already been defined, and will regularly be revised and updated.  It is through the advocacy of these objectives that the S.O.C. will complete its mission for the profession of osteopathy.

The Management of the Society of Osteopaths of Canada is committed to helping their members profit from their association with the S.O.C., above all, the S.O.C aims to improve the health and well-being of the population in general.
